MWC 2012: What to expect from the big brands
Yes that’s right, Mobile World Congress 2012 is just round the corner. The tech world that has just been revived by CES 2012 is already focused on the upcoming MWC in Barcelona. The top brands in the world are set to showcase their new mobile devices at the trade show. We’ve taken a look into the big companies that are expected to daze us with some great, new products, upgrades or prototypes at MWC.
Samsung
We’ve heard loads of rumours about the South Korean tech maker that allegedly is about to showcase Galaxy S3 at MWC. Tech geeks are eager to know whether the Galaxy S III will have a 3D screen and whether it will it be powered by a dual core or quad core processor. Unfortunately the most recent rumours definitely deny it. However the Galaxy Tab 7.7 may be on display at the show.
HTC
The company may put on display its much-rumoured quad core smartphone the Edge and dual core handset, the Vile. The company’s quad core powered 10-inch Android tablet may also be featured at the trade show.
Nokia
The Finnish brand may be showing a set of Windows 8 tablets at the trade show. It is Nokia’s first real MWC after sealing the deal with Microsoft to produce exclusive hardware for the platform. Nokia has already surfaced a number of Lumia phones with Windows Phone 7 and maybe we can again expect one or two models of Lumia from the company at MWC 2012.
Sony
MWC 2012 will probably be the first event after Sony has taken over the complete Sony Ericsson portfolio. The company unveiled its much-awaited Sony Xperia S at CES 2012 and is expected to roll out a line of new Xperia models named Xperia Nypon, Xperia Kumquat and Xperia U in Barcelona. We can also expect refreshes for the Arc and Neo line of phones.
LG
The LG X3 with a quad core processor is a much expectant handset from the company. The X3 will reportedly have a 4.7-inch HD display, quad core processor, 16GB of built-in memory, 8-megapixel rear camera and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. There may be an LG Optimus 3D 2 or LG Optimus 3D Max as well according to some analysts.
Microsoft
Microsoft has been in intense efforts to make a statement and become a key player in smartphone market for the last several months. The company brought out the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango last year. At MWC 2012, the software giant may unveil its Tango lower-spec OS version and even Apollo, the Windows Phone 8. All we can do is to wait until Microsoft’s chief Steve Ballmer appears on stage to see what he has hidden up his sleeves.
Asus
The Taiwanese tech maker may finally be removing the curtain from its PadFone, a tablet and phone combo. Asus announced the gadget last year; it may come to light in Barcelona. PadFone comes with a tablet accessory, which could be run by docking the handset to it. The redesigned Asus PadFone is about to grace Mobile World Congress and is expected to be a tad thinner. We hope there’re not compromising on battery life there. The PadFone will also rock Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0). It’s suggested that the smartphone-tablet hybrid will ditch all physical buttons. As for the processor, the jury are still furiously debating whether it’s an Nvidia Tegra 3 or Snapdragon S4 (MSM8960).
